The Challenger Motorcycle Race Suit

The Challenger Motorcycle Race Suit

Komodo Gear developed the Challenger Race Suit in response to the changing needs of amateur racers and “privateers” who, as a demographic, have been more adversely affected by the economic down turn than most other groups. A “products” cost now can make the difference between “racing” and staying home! As a result, we at Komodo Gear, have been saddened by the shift we have seen track side, from the interest in value to the preoccupation with price! Most of the time a racers’ ego will prevent them from buying cheap parts for their bikes because down deep we all know “you get what you pay for”, and to look “lame” at the track is the only thing worse than not being there. However, when it comes to race suits; now that’s a different story! All suits are really the same…right? I only paid $300.00 for my suit, because I got it on line and “they” can sell stuff cheaper on line…right? “They” wouldn’t put on Craig’s List if it weren’t good…right? And anyway, I’m not going to crash…right? Well, let me tell you something, “WRONG” on all counts!!
All suits are not created equal, especially from the “big names”. The “cheap models” are not built the same as the “premium models” nor are the same quality components or manufacturing processes used. A $300.00 “on-line” suit is junk whether you buy it on-line or out of the back of the trunk of a car in an alley. The suit was placed on eBay because someone didn’t want it, which should give you a clue as to how good it is! And YOU are going to crash; it is just a matter of time and how severe will be the crash!
Now let me ask a few questions. How valuable is your ability to be at work on Monday morning? How much is your top layer of skin worth? Do you have a week of sick leave at work you can use when the cheap suit fails to adequately protect you? Allow me to answer this way: the Challenger Race Suit costs $699.95!!

Motorcycle Crashing and Racing Apparel – What you need to know.

Motorcycle Crashing and Racing – what you need to know.

One of the realities of racing is the old expression, “it’s not if you crash, but when”.  This is a well known fact.
It applies to any type of racing and especially motorcycles.  It’s really amazing to see riders crash because most of the time, the crashes are very dramatic!  Bodies are sliding across on concrete at high rates of speed or you’re being thrown over the handlebars – sounds fun, huh?  So why do people do this?  We think it’s a feeling that you experience that is difficult to measure; it’s a feeling that can not be easily duplicated, but is accessable through a motorcycle.  Plus, add in the adrenaline and you pretty much become “hooked”.   And it’s legal and hell of a lot of fun!

Back to subject of this blog…crashing.  One thing is certain, it hurts most of the time.  What you need to prepare yourself for is that the protective gear you use absolutely makes a difference in the outcome of the crash.  If you don’t do your homework and jump into the sport with both feet, you will end up hurt and possibly end your riding career – we’ve seen it happen more than once.  Protective apparel is not something to take for granted each manufacturer uses different materials, patterns and ultimately, have different business models.  What looks super uber cool doesn’t necessarily mean it’s really designed for racing.  This is so very true of many race suits from Europe or from China (eBay comes to mind).  They are very cosmetic, but they are built to the bare minimum of safety standards.  We see riders wearing “factory” looking suits all the time and the leather is torn with armor bulging out.  One more crash and that rider will be at the hospital with a skin graph or worse.  Very few race suits offer the necessary reinforcement or even use quality materials such as full grain leather, but they look just like Rossi!  Keep in mind, when you see your hero’s racing on TV, the suit they are wearing is not the suit you will be buying.  That is a fact.  Crashing also takes a toll on the body and the mind; just ask any racer.

Komodo is different.  We build race products that are genuinely designed for the needs of hard core racing.  This means Komodo suits and our race gloves deliver proven FUNCTION for your SAFETY!  Do your homework, more privateer racers wear Komodo Gear racing products than any other products at the track because we have kept our focus on one thing, rider safety.  All of our racing products use the best materials available and because of that, you will have to pay a little more.  However, when you do crash, and you will, you will be protected by the safest race suit and gloves available today.  We all love our motorcycles and racing them is the next level; don’t let racing “end” your riding career.  Choose the best safety products available and you can have both and enjoy all the benefits motorcycling has to offer.  Choose Komodo Gear! We’ll see you at the track!

New for 2011 – Pro Racer Motorcycle Suit and Gloves

Blood, sweat and tears….high emotions!  Welcome to racing.  It’s a gritty sport that doesn’t apologize when you get slammed on the ground or slide into a wall.  You’ve got to be honest with yourself, this is not a “hobby” sport.  It is extreme, requires planning and preparation as it mimics aviation to a degree.  To be fast, racers need to be fit and mentally strong.  Riders are literally risking their lives to win and they rely on the products they race to hold up under the most  extreme and grueling conditions imaginable.  That’s why we launched the K-FX race portfolio back in 2007.  Words like “safety”, “durability” and “value” have been shared with us across the nation and across the pond by riders regarding the K-FX product line. Our customers tell us consistently how the K-FX product saved them from harm and allowed them to complete their racing season after so many crashes.  We also heard comments that we not so flattering, such as “heavy”, or “needs more style”.
